I am extremely pleased to be able to announce that Boulia Shire Council has been awarded $10.42 million for the construction of the Boulia Shire Community Hub under the Growing Regions Program - Round 2.

The approved funding for the Community Hub will be a gamechanger in council enthusiasm and productivity. It will be the centrepiece of Boulia. We commend the support given to rural and regional Queensland.

The new hub will replace the existing aging Council Administration building with a fit-for-purpose, multipurpose Hub that will feature a multimedia Library and resource centre, post office and flexible spaces for visiting officials, commercial leases and cultural displays. The new Hub administration department will also be a reward for staff who have worked in a less than functional building for a long time.

The process of trying to obtain funding started back in 2020, with Community and staff consultations being sought for ideas on the type of building which would suit Boulia. Council then engaged the involvement of Griffith University students to come up with the initial exterior design and POD Consultants who finessed the project to enable the submission to be completed.

With numerous funding applications that were submitted over the years not getting through, this funding announcement is a big win for Boulia’s future. We are excited to finally be able to construct the Community Hub to serve the needs of the people of Boulia Shire well into the future.
